Ever wondered what it might be like to be a mail order bride? Or the groom, already married to a woman he’s never laid eyes on?

On the Canadian prairies in 1886, having a mail order romance wasn’t unusual. Noah Ferguson desperately needed help on his farm. Annie Tompkins knew she couldn’t go on working in Lazenby’s cotton mill. So she’d been a little less than honest in her letters, was that really so terrible?

It was unforgivable, Noah fumed. He’d wanted an older widow, and Annie was a young virgin. But even that wasn’t the full extent of her lies.

Problem is, Noah hasn’t exactly been straight with Annie, either, and his secret has the power to break Annie’s heart.

Can even a special Christmas gift make their marriage work?

Some parts were heart-rending, soul-stretching, and tender. Others were quite unbelievable. I didn't like Noah for most of the book because his reasons for being cold, distant, and giving his wife the cold shoulder weren't well-enough motivated. He kept "saying" to himself he couldn't fall in love again, couldn't risk his heart, but he needed stronger reasons to behave badly. The ending is rewarding, until it's ghostly awkward given the lack of legit paranormal elements until the final paragraphs. Oh well. Just not for me.

Sensuality Level: Rated R. Detailed sex on the page, though not deeply graphic.
Language: PG. Lots of "swearing viciously" without words shown on the page.
Violence: Frontier appropriate and believable, but not domestic in nature.

This story was a simple testament if heartfelt war and tender love that grew with the test of time. Bobby Hutchinson gave a glimpse into the past, the description of the harsh winters, stark landscape, struggles of ranchers encountered during the 1800's a far cry from the luxuries of present day. The developing friendship between Annie, Bets and Zachary was sweet though not quite as sweet as the romance that blossomed between Noah and Annie. Though it took Noah longer to admit his love for Annie than I had hoped it would. I loved this sweet simple romance and look forward to reading more in this series.
I really enjoyed reading A Lantern In The Wi Dow Western Prairie Brides, all about Noah Ferguson is a rancher who has lost his wife and son to typhoid fever and is desperately seeking a mail order bride & Annie Tompkins answered the ad, and by proxy married Noah before leaving Boston. So she's been traveling on the train for over four days with her sister Betsy and is anxious to get to Medicine Hat, to meet her new husband. When she steps off the train in the middle of a blowing blizzard, she see's a man that resembles the image of her new husband. Unfortunately the image Noah is looking for is not what steps off the train! The author wrote a very interesting story, and the characters with out a doubt have brought this story to life. It's about two very different people who desperately need to be loved. One needs a wife because ranching is hard. One needs to be needed and needs to have her sister accepted even though she has a handicap, that she never told her new husband about. Read this story it will make you laugh, cry, sigh, shake your head and even cum a bit! It's a wonderful story about two people who, fall in love despite the grueling existence they live and all the hardships that surround them. I hope you enjoy this story, I can't wait to read the second book in this series.
A Lantern in the window is a relatively short story (I snarfed it in one night, sort of like a fat kid with chocolate). It is beautifully written with the perfect amount of Humor, drama (in a good way), and mushy love to keep you captivated until the end. I am a sucker for really romantic stories where the characters genuinely love each other, and this fits the bill. Don't get me wrong, Noah and Annie had their problems. It wasn't all puppies and butterflies. But some Authors have a tendency to drag the conflict on forever and it makes the story tedious. Bobby Hutchinson does an amazing job of making her characters realistic and very likable. I (obviously) enjoyed this book very much. So much so that I am writing my first review! If you are thinking about buying it, go ahead! You will love it! It is beyond worth the 99 cents!
Lantern In the Window a short story gets to the meat of the potato (plot of Story) right away. Right at the beginning Annie and Bets travels on a train heading to Canadian Prairie. To meet and live there with Annie's marriage by proxy husband Noah. Who lives with his cantankerous very ill father.

The proxy marriage starts out with lies by both of them. Instantly when they meet and see each other there is a lot of anger that Noah express because she is not how she portrayed herself and Noah did not tell her the truth about his ailing and cantankerous father which she learnt when they arrived at him home. Also Noah did not want children after the lost of his deceased previous wife and son. He really was not looking for love so he thought. He was looking for someone to help on the farm and take care of his father.

However through this short story there was a lot of anger however there was still tender moments between them and also intimate moments. The intimate moments are not too graphic however not G rated. Just from the way the moments are written you will feel you are there in that moment. However being a grown women I enjoyed it.

Will not tell you how the story ended. However it does have something to do with the the Lantern in the Window.
I really enjoyed the book..It was not long and drawn out. I wanted the story to never end. I really enjoyed the story.
