My Secret to Tell Natalie Richards Books
I read Richards, Six Months Later a while back and enjoyed it so much I had to go buy another one.I enjoy Richards writing so much. This story was really good as well. Emerson May aka Emmie is the "fixer" for everyone. She is such a good girl, and hates to see others hurting, sad, or in any other situation that causes anguish. Chelsea her best friend's dad is found beat up and bloody in his office in his own home.
Earlier that evening Chelsea's brother Deacon aka Deke found his way into Emmie's room covered in blood and in shock.
Life spirals from that point. Everyone is assuming Deke is responsible for the stat his father is in. Deke and his father were not seeing eye to eye on their business and it came to blows. Deke isn't always doing what is right and has been in trouble in the past. Emmie seems to be the only one who believes that Deacon is innocent.
Deacon knowing he will probably go down for what has happened to his father, decides to do some investigating on his own. Which requires him to hide from the Police.
This is an exciting book. Emmie is determined to help Deke prove his innocence and in the process her life is turned upside down as well.
There is smuggling, conspiracy, family, love, disappointment, and excitement in this book. It's full of twists and turns. It was fun to read, and figure out who the good guys were and who the bad guys were.
Richards has drawn me in twice with her books and I look forward to reading more of her work!

My Secret to Tell Natalie Richards Books Reviews
I went into the story with an open mind. I knew it had some mystery about it surrounding the family that Emmie was close friends with, but I didn't know what secrets they were hiding so my interest was totally piqued.
From the opening chapter, I got pulled into an intense moment where Emmie's best friend tells her that her father has been terribly assaulted. I instantly became curious and I wanted to know why Deacon was at Emmie's house looking guilty. At first I thought "well, it must be him". But then I quickly retracted because it would be too easy to simply assumed he did it. And as the story progressed, I figured out the deal with one person in particular because of how overly nice he was, along with his behavior towards Deacon. But I didn't understand why he'd do that to the family he claimed to care about and who else was working with him. It was clear to me that it wasn't a one man operation.
I found myself relating to Emmie's character in regards to how she's always trying to help others; wanting to find solutions and make everyone happy. Like her, I have a tendency to hold back my feelings and not stir the pot, so to speak. In Emmie's case, she was trying hard to live up to her mother's expectations and make her proud in the way that her brother had failed. So in spite of the situation, being caught up with Deacon and going against her parents when they told her to stay away from him helped her toughen up more, I think. And I was happy when she stood up to her mom about what she wanted.
I wouldn't call this a romantic suspense because even though Emmie had a crush on Deacon and he felt the same way, the situation was just too intense and their main focus was on clearing his name and figuring out who had attacked his father and why. That's understandable because I feel if the romance aspect was acted on too much then that would have taken away from the suspenseful elements of the story, and I liked that each page had me curious and wanting to know what the hell was going on and what sort of secrets were being kept. But I can't dismiss that it was sweet when they finally shared an intimate moment. No matter how short.
All in all, I liked that Richards had me guessing about various characters' involvement and whether or not this person could be trusted. I also liked how quick of a read it was; the writing style was fluid, and details were well-balanced. My Secret to Tell is a good story with chilling moments, especially that ending. The author had me at the edge of my seat. Loved how everything worked out for the characters, and I feel everyone got what they deserved.
This is one of my FAVORITE writers. Natalie has a way of writing a clean thriller/mystery that has me turning the pages and staying up way too late. I highly suggest this book. The character and relationship growth of Emmy & Deacon was great combined with mystery. I've probably reread this book a dozen times.
Full of suspense and romance. You will never see anything coming. One of the best books I've ever read! )
Enjoyed book.
Awesome book. It's very suspenseful. Slightly predictable, but I loved it anyway.
Ms. Richards is an excellent up and coming author. Her characters are always surprising and effectual. She is a wonderful story teller. I can't wait for her third novel. Thank you, Natalie, for your wonderful stories.

Grade B
When Emmie's best friend's brother (and secret crush) shows up at her house bloodied, Deacon claims not to be responsible for beating his father into a coma. She believes him, but even his sister Chelsea has doubts. Emmie's puts aside her good-girl persona, OCD and the admonitions of her parents and the sheriff to figure out who the true culprit is.
Natalie Richards created two complex, engaging characters in Emmie and Deacon, each had psychological issues that didn't define who they were as characters. I would have liked to have seen more of Chelsea. Emmie's absent brother seemed like a random character used only to describe her family dynamics.
Holy obvious "twist", Batman. I guessed the culprit less than 5% into the book, but that didn't ruin this compelling story for me. The last 1/3 of MY SECRET TO TELL reads like a true thriller and although I knew the obvious, I wanted to see how all the pieces fit together. I truly enjoy Richard's writing style and use of voice, but felt that the plot was unevenly paced and had a lot of random filler that would have been better used as backstory, character building or enhancing the main plot.
THEMES mystery, violence, friendship, romance, OCD, phobias
Most readers will solve the mystery early, but the story is enjoyable enough to keep reading.
