Someone says "Parrish is always fun to read". I find it almost true. As a mystery goes, it's okay. The key word is "FUN", and you read her Kincaid books when there's nothing better to read. It is not very good writing. The characters are all flat like paper dolls. Kincaid is irritating, not a good thing for a "hero".
He solves all the mysteries just because the authors do it for him, lead him to it creating unlikely situations where he's put smack in front of answers, not because his character has qualities to find answers.
If anything, he's a lazy loser who covers his laziness by usual losers' excuses, making it look like his life is intentional, based on some deep emotions and beliefs. Which is not developed by authors - there's no depth in this character. Those few emotions we can glance through his muddy thoughts and actions are just that - usual loser's excuses, blaming everyone but himself in his misfortunes that brought him to a dilapidated low-rent cottage to sit and wait for PI opportunity to make living. And he's not good at PI - he gets distracted and obsessed by occasional crimes he hears about, and he launches into unrelated investigations with totally UNREALISTIC support of local police that - what a JOKE - is eager to give him a power to work investigations the way he prefers, as a freelance amateur.
The ending of this one is quite predictable in spite of some reviewers' disappointment. It ends true to the nature of this hero - he chooses the easier option.

A Killing Rain Louis Kincaid Book 6 edition by PJ Parrish Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
I enjoyed this very much. Great character development, as well as a great story. It's a stand alone book in what I would guess to be a series (from the title). I liked the main character but I wish his feelings weren't so conflicted. I felt like shouting at him to "make up your mind"! Good wring and editing.
This was a fantastic tale of a private detective from Ft Meyers, Florida.
There is murder, intrigue, relationship issues, major human drama.
I was variously depressed, excited, angry... But always on the edge of my seat.
Do not plan to read this book if you do not have time to sit down and devote the time to finish it.
I love the Louis Kincaid series of books. I bought this one after completing Dead of Winter. It has the same unrelenting, pounding action page after page. Louis can be one tough cookie. While on the other hand, he shows so much compassion it almost brings tears to your eyes. And at times when he crosses the line, his conscience helps him find his way back. Can't wait to read all Kincaid books. In this book we're also introduced to Joe Skye, a female cop. Hope we'll be treated to more about her.
P.l. Louis Kincaid is romantically interested in a local DA. She has an 11 year old son for whom Louis cares about. Things get complicated when her estranged husband shows up. The husband takes his son out for ice cream and both disappear. Louis is involved in the investigation.
This was a really good book. I couldn't put it down. The mystery kept getting more interesting and exciting as the investigation continued. I highly recommend this book and author.
This was a really great book. First off, I like a book where the main characters surprise you. The author did a fantastic job of creating a likeable main character, and then kind of surprising you that he was black. In the world of my dreams, this is how we would all be. Race would be just a tiny footnote. The book itself was well written, and kept me glued to the story until the end. There were a few red herrings, and some good, tense moments. Of course, there was the guy we all love to hate. Every story needs one of those. If this is book six, then I am going to find the other five and read them as well. Just a fine book altogether. Thanks, P.J. Parrish. Well done.
I found this disappointing for a PJ Parrish book; normally I like them. It moves at a slow, soap opera, pace. It really didn't pick up the pace and catch my attention until approximately 3/4 the way through.
Louis Kincaid meets Joe (Joette) Frye in the novel. He's a PI drawn into a case involving a woman he's having a relationship with. The relationship is never clearly defined.
As a PI, he's under the jurisdiction of the police. The next thing you know, he's barking the orders and becomes some superhero with a personal agenda
The ending is good. Rather than leave it end, the authors felt a need to continue and have Kincaid turning down a concrete job offer with many opportunities. He turns the job and a relationship down to go back to whence he came to start chasing rainbows. It's a bit hard to take.
If this book is at the top of your list, feel free to move it down some. There are better reads from others and from the sisters who author this series.
I love these Louis Kincaid mystery novels. Each book brings an enormous level of suspense without being unbelievable and the crime scenes that are investigated are done with professionalism without being over the top and sensationalized. The events that occur in these mysteries are developed carefully and the writing style is so cohesive I was surprised that they are written by two people. Between the crimes themselves and the characters involved are seamless transitions and this Louis Kincaid guy keeps getting smarter and more skilled with each novel that follows. I also love the fact that these are stand-alone novels and do not need to be read in order just to understand. However by doing so you will get the complete back story on Kincaid.
